This is the first Smackdown to record for me in weeks. The Rangers have been running late all the time, and my local MyNetworkTV station hugs the root. It’s nice to have it back.
Kane promo
- I really didn’t think they’d put the title on Kane, but I guess he deserves it. He has been there for fifteen or sixteen years and continues to work hard.
- He has now already surpassed the length of his previous title reign. Good for him.
- You guys remember when Kane didn’t speak? And wore a hood? No? Oh yeah, you were all of six. I feel old.
- Has Kane been watching Abyss promos?
- Scratch that, this promo is better than anything Abyss has ever done. The bit about feeling Rey’s pulse while goozling him was amazing.
- Have we forgotten the time Kane set the Undertaker on fire? Or the time he helped Vince bury him alive? Or the time Kane electrocuted Shane’s nuts?
- Great intensity, even if I can’t buy über babyface Kane.
- If Taker were really in a vegetative state, Michelle McCool wouldn’t be nearly as perky.
Shouldn’t Rey just get a rematch? I like Swagger and all, but Rey deserves an automatic rematch.
So in the saga of Hardy vs Christian, who turned heel on who?
Matt Hardy and Christian vs Drew McIntyre and Dashing Cody Rhodes
- I guess nobody then.
- I really dig that mirror gimmick Cody has. Cooler than The Narcissist. And the new music is epic.
- Okay, Matt, you versus me. First to lose twenty pounds wins.
- There’s no fair in Money in the Bank. That’s just how it works, Grisham.
- By the way, the work is good, but nothing special thus far.
- Fun setup for the “guys on the floor let’s go to break” spot.
- If Jeff Hardy is exonerated and he returns to WWE, I’d love to see a Hardy Boyz vs Edge and Christian DVD of all their matches. I saw them work in White Plains, NY back in 1999 and it was great.
- McIntyre is super brutal sometimes.
- I need to see Cody’s mom. He doesn’t have Dusty or Dustin’s genetics, so we know where those came from.
- For those wondering why my notes have suddenly gotten longer, it’s because I got an iPhone 4 and I’ve paired it with my bluetooth keyboard. I can type much faster than I write.
- I’m mildly sad that I never got to write down “Dashing Cody Rhodes” though. Really warming to the new moniker.
- Did Hardy injure his gut? Those aren’t where your ribs are.
- You can even see his ribs when he moves. Whoever taped him up did a shit job.
- I could watch this match for ages. Again, nothing spectacular, but pure fun and very sound all around.
- Maybe Cody and Drew will tag again now. I could go for that. Additionally, I can really get behind a Hardy-Christian feud. Very nostalgic for that right now.
- Well, no blow up yet. We’ll get there.
Jack Swagger interview
- I noticed the Eddie spot as well. Even quoted the event, match and date that it occurred. Because I’m a wrestling nerd.
- That being said, dunno if they should be dragging around Eddie’s name again. Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like they’ve belaboring the point.
Alberto Del Rio telenovela thing
- Is this guy a heel? Shouldn’t they be pushing for more Hispanic faces?
- If he’s a face, he’s super boring. He reminds me of the drug lord mayor from Weeds.
Ley-Cool celebration/Teddy Long interrupts
- These two have really grown on me. Mrs. Atomic hates them.
- Tiffany is hardly a threat. Flies laugh at her.
Kofi Kingston with Mike McGillicutty vs Dolph Ziggler with Vickie Guerrero
- Ghana has major publications? You need a wheelbarrow to carry around the equivalent of a dollar there.
- Kofi got ups.
- Ziggler got stiff kicks.
- Am I the only one that thinks that Striker is the better color man in the business right now? Possible the best announcer as well?
- “Here Mike, look at my boobs as I throw you out.”
- English teachers watching around the world applauded McGillicutty correcting his own grammar.
- I like that Ziggler operates with an arsenal of neckbreakers to build to the Sleeper. More workers with submission finishers need to work that way.
- That was Shawn Michaels level comeback heat for Kofi there. Those kids love him, and with good reason.
- Kofi, I know your name sounds like Kerry, but you are not a Von Erich. You cannot win with a backslide.
- Very different pace on this one. I have to wonder if it’s rust from Money in the Bank slowing them down.
- Sigh. A Sleeper isn’t lethal. Nothing in wrestling is lethal. Stop listening to Michael Cole, Striker.
- Digging the old school finish on this one. Simple, but slightly screwy.
- Also cool that Ziggler wants the IC title. Beats watching nobody want the US Title from Miz.

- We get it, Striker. Show worked as The GIant in WCW.
- Punk doesn’t look bad at all. I dig that look about him.

- Been waiting on this one.
- So Cody’s a heel why? That was actually a useful tip.
Rey Mysterio interview
- Even Josh Matthews is taller than Rey. This looks horrible.
- No more stories uncle Rey. Anything but a story.

Best of Three Falls for Number One Contender: Rey Mysterio vs Jack Swagger
- The Chim is the best ring announcer they’ve had since Fink retired.
- I wish they did big fight intros on this one. Best of Three doesn’t come along often.
- Swagger vs Rey has been much better than Swagger vs Big Show by a long shot.
- They mistimed the top rope pull down. Didn’t look good at all.
- Very good back and forth thus far, save for the few missteps. I like the addition of the ankle injury.
- Swagger doing a fallaway with, er, an ankle yank looked brutal.
- Figured they’d do a fall by DQ. Of course, now Swagger can pin Rey twice, or let him get counted out.
- Gah. Nobody over the age of thirteen believes that Rey is a credible wrestler in the US. I wonder how much Michael Hayes enjoys booking him to win over guys a good chunk bigger than him.
- Not looking forward to babyface vs babyface at SummerSlam.
- Kane appears to have heard me in the past. I hope this leads to a full fledged heel turn, and the revelation that Kane put Taker out.
Fun show. Again, glad to have Smackdown back.
