We’re about an hour from SummerSlam. I wanted to post some quick thoughts on the build before the show started.
Over on Raw, we’ve had the ongoing Nexus storyline. I’m enjoying it because it’s different. Sure, it’s a bunch of guys from developmental plowing through established workers. Sure, it’s strange how half these guys couldn’t beat each other and now they’re suddenly amazing workers.
Sure, I poked fun at all of them in my NXT posts from season 1.
But Raw has been less “Cena beats everyone” and more “Cena finally gets his comeuppance.” Add in Sheamus’ recent push, and Raw feels fresh. I’ve been looking forward to it these last few weeks.
I’m also excited for Bret Hart at SummerSlam. Sure, he’ll spend most of his time on the apron. But, as I’ve posted before, this is Bret’s show. It’ll be good to see him create more memories.
Then we have Smackdown. Two familiar faces are in the top feud, which is really about The Undertaker. I’d rather that than have it be about Stephanie McMahon.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Kane and Rey feud before. Rey’s promos have been terrible, but the crowd is loving him these days.
Kane, on the other hand, has been fantastic on the stick. When they made it a casket match, I popped huge.
I was really hoping they’d make a tiny casket for Rey, but beggars can’t be choosers.
Now that Rey has finally accused Kane of attacking The Undertaker, I fully expect Taker to return and either help Kane lock up Rey, then attack Kane, or screw Kane over.
If Kane survives, he and Taker feud over the belt, leading to Hell in a Cell. If Rey wins, Taker gets Rey next month, and Kane screws him out of that, leading to Hell in a Cell.
Undertaker vs Kane in October. Mark my words, cats and kittens.
Mrs. Atomic and I are off to BW3 for the show. Look for my report shortly thereafter.
If you’re in Austin, which you probably aren’t, I’ll be the dork eating chicken wings and typing on a Bluetooth keyboard.
